Composition, Rhythm and Color Vision: Ilona Levitz
Getting beyond the tight
interpretation of the object is the focus of this class. Compositions will be
composed with a rhythmic flow, allowing you to let go of the the photo image
sooner. You will also learn how the great colorists from Matisse to present day
geniuses use color and light to inform the surface of the painting. Individual
and group instruction. All medium – Not For Beginners. Please bring an
example of your work to the first class. Come prepared to work. Canvas, paint,
paper, brushes etc.

Designed to build and/or reinforce
the basic drawing skills, transposing observed objects into line and shape with
emphasis on learning to see light and dark composition. We will draw from
still-life, models and landscape using a variety of means (pencil, charcoal,
marker, pastel). Please bring 18x24 newsprint pad, ebony pencil, pressed
charcoal and sharpey marker to class. Model fee will apply for some classes and
will be shared by class.

Tuesday
It’s Fun to be Creative: Diane Marinaro
Learn the basics of good design in the medium of your choice. This class is
aimed at developing your own style, with special emphasis on composition, i.e,
color, line and value. Express your feelings and ideas creatively. I want your
paintings to express you, to be fresh and exciting and to be a source of
enjoyment to you as you paint. Bring art supplies, fine medium and heavy felt
tip black pens: pad paper (10x 12) and tracing paper of same size as pad.

Watercolor Workout: Bob Norieka
Let’s get into shapes; let’s pump up our values; let’s tone up: let’s
exercise fluidity. This class will concentrate on our warm-up exercises and
learn to cool down glowing colors, running through the bristles of our brushes.
After working on our congenital strengths, will concern plenty and juicy
spontaneity. Weather permitting we will work out of doors. Work out clothes
optional.

Focus on Landscape Composition: Carol Ganick –

We will be studying compositions in order to diversify approaches to painting
the landscape. Landscape compositions by various artists will be considered.
Source material will be provided by the instructor and students will be
encouraged to bring in their own photographs for use in developing various
paintings. Students are encouraged to use painting materials with which they are
most comfortable. In addition to painting materials of your choice bring a
drawing pad and a fine point black marker. Call the instructor at 860-542-0122

"Art is something seen and felt, interpreted by the painter’s
aesthetic senses, plus his own experience to make it what he intends to
communicate" – Daniel Garber- Explore new ways to see light, shadows and
atmosphere of the outside world through oil landscape painting. I will
demonstrate and work along with you on the use of simple color and brushwork
techniques to capture a moment in time. We will be working from photos and plein
air, weather permitting. At first class a supply list will be given.

Designed to build basic painting skills, observe values, shapes and use line
with limited color at first-building towards a full palette through color
exercises. We will paint from still lives, models and landscapes (weather
permitting). Oil paint, acrylic, pastel, opaque watercolor (tempura) can be
choice of media. Bring 18x24 canvas drawing pad (not newsprint) and your choice
of medium, brushes and palettes. (Palette can be mat board or plexiglass.)

Adventures in Watercolor: Frank
Federico - 4 weeks
We will explore the capricious
nature of watercolor painting by working wet-in-wet, wet-on-dry-on all
watercolor paper surfaces. Some exploration with acrylic and gouache on paper.
Subject matter will vary, color and personal design will be emphasized. Student
interaction is encouraged through teacher demonstrations and critiques.

This class will offer the beginner and advanced student the opportunity for
greater freedom of expression and spontaneity. We will combine a variety of
media (painting, photography, drawing and found objects) during this class.
Demonstrations and critiques will help direct innovative and creative growth.
Everyone can expect to complete several successful works of art. $10 material
fee requested at first class.

Watercolor Plus (Traditional to

In addition to traditional transparent watercolor painting or acrylic
painting exercises, interested students will be encouraged to experiment with
abstract design, gouache, watercolor pencils, watercolor collage, ink, monotype
and stencils. Students will supply their own materials. For any level student
willing to experiment or just wanting to improve their painting technique.

An advanced painting class for the individual who feels secure in the craft
of drawing and painting. Concentration on composition and structure instead of
skills. Classes devoted entirely to group discussions and individual critique of
work which has been executed outside of class.

Watercolor, Beginning and
Intermediate: Carol Ganick
Ten evening classes will focus on students individual needs in watercolor
painting. Beginners will receive direct instructions in how to effectively apply
watercolor paint. Based on your willingness to practice techniques you will
become confident with mixing colors and applying paint using wet-in-wet and dry
brush methods. Intermediate students will receive general direction and
critiques at the end of each class. For these students, composition, value and
color will be the main concern. Beginners will be given a minimal list of
required materials and may call Carol Ganick at 860-543-0122 for this
information. Intermediate students may call if additional suggestions for
materials are needed.

This class is geared for the beginner to advanced artist. We will
concentrate on basic drawing and painting skills working from still-life set-ups
and life models. Come to the first class with large drawing pad (20x30), 5b
drawing pencil, and kneaded eraser. Additional supplies will be discussed at
first class. Modeling fee will apply in some classes and will be shared by
class.

Oil Painting for Beginners and

This class will start with basic perspective design and color theory, and
students will then move on to experimentation with some modern movement in art,
giving students a deeper understanding of art and the painting process. The
ultimate goal will be the development of your own individual style. Please bring
a 14x17 drawing pad to the first class. Additional materials will be discussed
at first session.

Throwing ON The Wheel: Susan Perl – 8

This class is a perfect for advanced beginners or intermediate wheel
throwers. Practice the basic skills needed to create bowls, vases, and cups, as
well as more complex forms in this self-directed class. Various glazing and
finishing techniques will be presented, and select handbuilding techniques will
be explored. Personal discovery and experimentation will be encouraged. Come
with a smock and your sense of adventure. Please bring $20 materials fee to
first class. (covers 25lbs. of clay and glazes.) This class is limited to 6
students.

For the young child who loves art. This class will introduce your child to a
variety of art materials and techniques while encouraging them to use their
imagination as they explore the basic concepts of line, shape, color, and design
through colorful collage, tempera and watercolor paints, crayons and pastels.
Some projects prefaced by music and storytelling of well known children’s
classics in literature including international folklore fables and fairytales as
well as more contemporary children’s stories.

Your imagination, combined with inspiration drawn from nature, photo and
still-life, will help make your artwork an expression of your unique interests,
talent and creativity. Instruction will accommodate beginning artists and those
with more experience.

Cartooning, ages 8-12: Elena Steier
Manga is the Japanese word for comics. This class covers basic drawing
techniques by exploring the world of manga.Every lesson takes characters from
video games, trading cards, and comic books, and deconstructs them so children
become familiar with underdrawing, basic shapes, perspective, design and
composition. Each child is responsible for building his or her own character
based on universal drawing concepts which are used by the artists who create
manga. In addition, everyone gets to use these new cartooning skills to create
stories and comic strips.

WHEEL THROWING FOR BEGINNERS, 6
Weeks -ages 10 and up
This course will focus on learning to use the pottery wheels to throw simple
shaped bowls, cups and objects by learning basic wheel skills and through
demonstrations. All items will be kiln fired and glazed. This course is limited
to 6 students. Price includes clay and glazing.

FOR KIDS AND PARENTS: CLAY WORKSHOP
MAKE A HOLIDAY GIFT! Two Days
Explore texture and pattern thru clay as we make a holiday gift for that
special someone on your list or for yourself! Teacher will demonstrate
handbuilding methods and will have samples and ideas of projects that can be
finished in one day. Tiles, mugs, bowls and holiday ornaments are some of the
things that can be accomplished on the first day. Second day of workshop will be
devoted to glazing your project. Taught by Beth Reynolds.
