Trustee Debra Conant has arranged for an Art League bus trip on April 28 to New York City. The cost is $58 per person and includes a tram tour at the New York Botanical gardens, lunch and then a trip to the Salmagundi Club to see the American Watercolor show.

The Art League is grateful to Debra for undertaking the Tours project and we're pleased to note that 42 members and friends had a wonderful day on February 13 when they had a guided tour of the Griswold House (the 1850's Sea Captain's House where Miss Florence greeted visitors to her haven for artists) and a tour of the new Trieble Gallery, the Florence Griswold's new Impressionist Museum, featuring selections from the Hartford Steam Boiler Collection.

Saturday, May 15, 2004 - Christine Breslin - Polaroid transfers

Have you wondered what you can do with those slides in the back of your closet? Polaroid Transfers are a great way to extend the life of your slides and create a new set of images. Using a slide printer and Polaroid film you can print slide images onto fine art watercolor paper as well as glass or plexiglass. You can create single images or collage several together to create one larger image. And, if there is time you will be able to hand color images if you desire. Bring to class at least 10-20 slides that are properly exposed. The more saturated the slide the better the image will appear. Along with your slides bring: scissors, pencils, ruler, a clear glass mug or solid light colored mug. If you have any pastels or watercolors bring them also. The cost of the class includes 10 sheets of film and one sheet of fine art watercolor paper. There will be more film available for you to purchase during the class as well as additional water color paper.

Christine Breslin is a documentary, fine art and commercial photographer: The recipient of numerous grants and awards. Ms. Breslin has exhibited internationally and nationally, and is in the Polaroid Collection. Her work bridges both fine art and commercial fields, with her use of Polaroid films, transfers, toning and other alternative techniques.

Saturday, June 19, 2004 - Carole Robb - Direct Observational Painting

This workshop will focus on turning direct observation into exciting pictorial structures and images. The workshop will be based on observing nature - the model in the interior set-up including still-life (fruit). The essence of our exploration lies in seeing. Through seeing we will learn about the formal and the free in nature and the meaning of intimacy with the object.

Carole Robb studied painting at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland and the University of Reading, England (MFA 1979). She is a Fulbright scholar, a recipient of the Prix de Rome, and has been a visiting artist at Mass College of Art, American University, The Royal College of Art, and many others. She is represented by the Forum Gallery in NYC, and is a faculty member at New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture.

All workshops will be held at the West Hartford Art League's Schoolhouse building at 87 Mountain Road West Hartford, CT. Fees are $100 for non-members, $85 for members.  Call 860-521-3732 for more information.
