August 22, 2005 Sept. 22 - October 15, 2005 ArtWalk, a juried exhibition of paintings, photographs, sculpture and mixed media will be on display in the storefront windows of West Hartford Center businesses from Sept.22 – October 15. Sponsored by the West Hartford Art League, in partnership with the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce and the West Hartford Center Business Association, this annual event exhibited over 100 pieces of art in over 50 storefront windows last year. The juror for this year's exhibit is Carole Robb, of New York, who is the Director of the MFA Painting program at the Studio School, and is represented by the Forum gallery in NYC Maps of participating artists and merchant locations will be available in all participating businesses, and will also be included in a special Hartford Courant ArtWalk section being produced on Sept.22. The public is invited to an opening reception, Thursday Sept. 22, 2005 at 5:30 at the corner of Arapahoe and LaSalle Road with an official unveiling at 6 p.m. by Lt. Governor Kevin Sullivan. Refreshments will be provided by Wild Oats Market, and Starbucks will be hosting a coffee sampling and tasting. Several participating merchants will also be hosting receptions in their businesses that evening so people can stroll through the center at a leisurely pace and enjoy the artwork. All artwork will be for sale and can be purchased by calling the West Hartford Art League at 521-3732. In addition, Fleet Feet Sports will be hosting a free Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, Sept. 24 called "The ArtWalk Tour." The public is invited to walk or run through the center on a route designed to show off all the artwork on display. The course will be about 2.5 miles and will end with free breakfast at Fleet feet Sports. Call 233-8077 to reserve a spot. Toast Wines by Taste will be holding a wine tasting in their shop opening night from 6-8 p.m., and will hold it each Saturday during ArtWalk from 1-4. ArtWalk was made possible by donations from major sponsors US TRUST, Wild Oats, and Lamar, and Dali Donor Blue Back Square, as well as grants from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, and the Greater Hartford Arts Council.
