Scholarship 2002

in Art Scholarship Opportunities for Graduating High School Seniors

The West Hartford
Art League is pleased to announce three scholarship awards for graduating
seniors. First place is the $1200 Pollock Award. The West Hartford Art
League is pleased to announce it will also provide scholarship awards of
$500 for second place, and $250 to the third place winner.

| Lois McDonald is
having a one woman show of her works at the Canton Public Library during
the month of May. The library is located at 40 Dyer Avenue in
Collinsville. Lois also won the Trustee's Awards at the WHAL Open Juried
Exhibition. |
| WHAL received 225 entries
to the Open Juried Exhibition, of which 122 were
accepted. This show was juried by Fred Wessel, a professor at
the Hartford Art School.
Wessel was born in
New York in 1946. He lives in Northampton, Massachusetts and is a
professor at the Hartford Art School where he teaches drawing, egg tempera
painting and lithography. He currently co-directs Workshops in Italy,
bringing small groups of artists and art-lovers to Tuscany and Umbria to
paint and study the Italian Renaissance.
Fred is represented
by the Sherry French Gallery in NYC and the Arden Gallery in Boston, MA.
His work is included in many private and public collections including, The
Museum of Modern Art, NY; The Brooklyn Museum, NY; The Philadelphia Museum
of Art, PA; The Library of Congress; The Wichita Museum of Art, KS; Smith
College Museum, MA; The University of Tianjin Fine Arts College, People's
Republic of China.

| Delores Howard
is exhibiting 16 pieces of her oil and watercolors at the Seabury Gallery
at the Seabury Retirement Community, 200 Seabury Drive in Bloomfield,
through February 2. |
| Hilary Kenyon
was juried in as a member of the CT Academy of Fine Arts this past fall,
with the inclusion of her work in the show at the Norwich Academy.
She is also a member of CT Women Artists and the CT Watercolor Society. |

Framing
Artists Alternative, ever our
community minded friend, has notified
us that for every framing order they receive from an Art League Member,
they will donate 5% of the order to the Art League. Mention this to
them next time you get something framed there and you will be helping the
League at the same time.
We also have a similar offer is available

for the special program number they require. The donations from American
Frame are applied to awards for our juried shows.

Fundraiser!!!
Montana Mills, the highly touted
new bread bakery at Bishops Corner is offering Breadit Cards to our
members. For a $10 Breadit Card purchased through the Art League,
members are entitled to one free loaf of Cinnamon Swirl, Grandma's
White or Honey Whole Wheat when they buy another loaf of bread. After
the twelfth purchased loaf, customers will receive a 13th loaf for free.
For every $10 card League members purchase, $5 will be donated to WHAL. To
participate please complete the Breadit Card
order form and mail to WHAL by February 28, 2002. |
